(125) Parables About the Kingdom

Luke 13:18-30

[18]Then He said, “What is the kingdom of God like, and to what shall I compare it? [19]It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took and cast into his garden; and it grew and became a great tree, and the birds of the air lodged in its branches.”

[20]And again He said, “To what shall I liken the kingdom of God? [21]It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, until the whole batch was leavened.”

[22]And He went through the cities and villages, teaching and traveling toward Jerusalem. [23]Then someone said to Him, “Lord, will only a few be saved?”

And He said to them, [24]“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able.

[25]“Once the Master of the house gets up and shuts the door, you will stand outside and begin to knock at the door, saying, ‘Lord, Lord, open it for us.’

“But He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know you; where are you from?’

[26]“Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’

[27]“But He shall say, ‘I tell you, I do not know you; where are you from? Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity.’

[28]“There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham and Isaac and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves thrown out. [29]And they will come from the east and the west, and from the north and the south, and will sit down in the kingdom of God. [30]And indeed, there are those who are last who will be first, and there are those who are first who will be last.”

(125) Parables About the Kingdom

Luke 13:18-30, KJV

18 Then said he, Unto what is the kingdom of God like? and whereunto shall I resemble it? 19 It is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and cast into his garden; and it grew, and waxed a great tree; and the fowls of the air lodged in the branches of it. 20 And again he said, Whereunto shall I liken the kingdom of God? 21 It is like leaven, which a woman took and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. 22 And he went through the cities and villages, teaching, and journeying toward Jerusalem. 23 Then said one unto him, Lord, are there few that be saved? And he said unto them, 24 Strive to enter in at the strait gate: for many, I say unto you, will seek to enter in, and shall not be able. 25 When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are: 26 Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets. 27 But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity. 28 There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out. 29 And they shall come from the east, and from the west, and from the north, and from the south, and shall sit down in the kingdom of God. 30 And, behold, there are last which shall be first, and there are first which shall be last.
