Matthew 5:1-12, Luke 6:17-26

[A]And Jesus came down with them and stood on a plain in the company of His disciples. And a great crowd was also there. They came from all over Judea and Jerusalem, and from the seacoast of Tyre and Sidon. They came to hear Him, and to be healed of their diseases. [B]Those who were tormented by unclean spirits also came; and they were healed. [C]The whole crowd tried to touch Him, for power came out of Him and healed them all.

[D]Seeing the multitudes, He went up into the mountain and sat down, and His disciples came to Him. [E]He looked up at them, then opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

Blessed are the poor in spirit,

for the kingdom of heaven is yours.

    [F]Blessed are those who mourn,

  for they shall be comforted.

    [G]Blessed are the gentle,

for they shall inherit the earth.

    [H]Blessed are those who hunger

  and thirst after righteousness,

  for you shall be filled.

Blessed are those who weep now,

  for you shall laugh.

    [I]Blessed are the merciful,

  for they shall obtain mercy.

    [J]Blessed are the pure in

heart, for they shall see God.

    [K]Blessed are the peacemakers,

for they shall be called the

  children of God.

    [L]Blessed are those who are

  persecuted because of righteousness,

for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.

[M]Blessed are you when men shall

hate you, exclude you, insult you,

persecute you, and falsely say all

kinds of evil against you and your

name because of me, the Son of Man.

[N]Rejoice in that day; leap for

  joy and be exceedingly glad.

For look! Your reward in heaven

is great. Their fathers did the same

thing to the prophets who were

  before you.

[O]But woe to you who are rich!

  For you have received your

  consolation.

[P]Woe to you who are full!

  For you shall hunger.

Woe to you that laugh now!

For you shall mourn and weep.

    [Q]Woe to you, when everyone

  speaks well of you!

For that is the way their fathers

  treated the false prophets.

Matthew 5:1-12, KJV

And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying, 3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God. 10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness’ sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

Luke 6:17-26, KJV

17 And he came down with them, and stood in the plain, and the company of his disciples, and a great multitude of people out of all Judaea and Jerusalem, and from the sea coast of Tyre and Sidon, which came to hear him, and to be healed of their diseases; 18 And they that were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed. 19 And the whole multitude sought to touch him: for there went virtue out of him, and healed them all. 20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said, Blessed be ye poor: for yours is the kingdom of God. 21 Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. 22 Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their ompany, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. 23 Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets. 24 But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. 25 Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger. Woe unto you that laugh now! for ye shall mourn and weep. 26 Woe unto you, when all men shall speak well of you! for so did their fathers to the false prophets.
