(94) Peter’s Confession of Christ

Matthew 16:13-20, Mark 8:27-30, Luke 9:18-21

[A]Now Jesus and His disciples went out and came to the region of Caesarea Philippi. And it came to pass, as they traveled through the towns, Jesus was alone praying. When His disciples joined Him, He asked them, “Who do the people say that I, the Son of Man, am?”

[B]“Some say that you are John the Baptist,” they said. “But some say Elijah; still others say that you are Jeremiah or one of the prophets of old raised from the dead.”

[C]“But who do you say that I am?” He asked them.

And Simon Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”

[D]And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven. [E]And I also say to you that you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it. [F]And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.”

[G]Then He strongly commanded His disciples not to tell anyone what Peter said, that He was Jesus, “the Christ of God.”
